Rachel & John are getting married next weekend and it’s our first wedding of the year! I’m so excited to start 2012 wedding season off with these two. As you can see, they are incredibly fun, making each other smile non-stop and so obviously in love. I predict smiles, and lots of them. And a really great photographic series of feeding-each-other-weddingcake shots! (See below).

It’s January. Or, well maybe for the next few minutes while you scroll through these photos, you can pretend it’s July. Jen & Rob’s wedding day at Phipps Conservatory. I don’t have to tell you much about the day since I’m posting about 50 photos, but Jen & Rob are awesome. We had run into them a few times at mutual friends’ parties over the past couple of years and were super thrilled when they asked us to shoot their wedding. It was a great way to spend a Saturday. They were truly, without any question, enjoying every moment of their day. Every time you looked at each of them you felt that.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you create lots of happy moments in 2012! I am looking forward to documenting many laughs, grins, happy tears and of course all of the hilarious outtakes that you don’t normally see posted publicly.

Looking back at 2011, I think I may have fallen apart if it wasn’t for loving what I was doing every weekend, like watching others on one of the happiest days of their lives, and then excitedly sharing all of their memories on facebook. Seeing so much happiness, kept my perspective in balance amidst the pain and stress that my family was experiencing through the year. It sure beat working twelve hour night shifts, short-staffed in a busy ER watching other families experience the worst days of their lives. Wait, it doesn’t beat it… it blows it out of this universe. And for some reason, who knows why, this year was meant to go the way it did. I’m going to be thankful for everything I can find, which is quite a bit when I start adding it all up…

For example: I don’t hate going to work anymore. I love to spend time with my clients and watch them connect with each other. Amy & Matt’s session is a perfect example. We had a great time strolling through Shadyside and then Mellon Park. If you are looking for a park-like setting for your session, Mellon Park has a great combination of textures, architecture and nature. Lots of opportunities for me to turn one photo idea in “just one more over here” about 23 times.

Oh, and thanks to Nicole (again) for sending one of her wonderful friends my way!

Downtown Pittsburgh Photo Session | The Drays

Hello and Happy Holidays! The blogging hiatus has come to an end. I know I haven’t posted much, or really anything at all, but I have been so blessed to have had a great (busy) year full of photographing wedding and portrait subjects sent to me by former brides/grooms/coworkers/friends/facebook/google. THANK YOU. I have so much to show, but for now just enjoy some true love and laughter images from the Dray’s. We spent an afternoon around Market Square in downtown Pittsburgh. I set the session up as a Thank You for Your Support gesture, and it ended up being more than that. A great afternoon with two very sweet, talented and kind-hearted friends of ours. All four of us just playing, laughing and enjoying the charm of the city at Christmas time.

Looking at these photos makes me feel so good inside. And so lucky that I crossed paths with Jess & Adam. I booked Jess & Adam’s wedding in Spring of 2010. I started shooting weddings in August of 2010. You can do the math, but man, I am so lucky that they trusted me. I really didn’t have any experience or a portfolio at all. And, I don’t feel lucky because I “got some business”. It’s because I got some business with the most awesome people in the world. They are so full of emotion and sweetness and love and FUN! I know Sam agrees (we talked about it)…we’ve made a couple of great friends. I feel a special connection to all of the couples like Jess & Adam who chose me during that time and trusted me early in my photography career. Now they are the staples in my portfolio, my growth, confidence and why I love this job. They rock.

Sam tried to photography ALL of the bubbles…

While I recruited a guest to blow the bubbles in front of my camera lens (always a good idea).

Yes, it was bouquet football. Head to head. Intense. I give credit to Jess & Adam for coming up with some really fun ideas for the bridal party photos!

Sacred Heart Parish & Pennsylvanian Wedding

Congrats to Matt and Nicole! We were so honored to be a part of this beautiful Pittsburgh wedding. The ceremony site was Sacred Heart Parish in Shadyside followed by an elegant reception at The Pennsylvanian in downtown Pittsburgh. I’m just not going to type any more words because there are so many photos to view… Enjoy!

Denham Salon did some fab work on the girls hair.

Prep time: 22nd floor of the Westin Hotel, Downtown Pittsburgh. The suite even overlooked the Pennsylvanian reception site!

Make-up artist: Theresa Steele from Saks Fifth Avenue. The girls were HOT! (and of course extremely classic).

The crew from Cana Films in action! The wedding video is going to be AWESOME. I know it.

Did I forget to mention how extremely talented the bride, Nicole is? She designed her own print products (from invitations, programs, and menus) She works at CREATE studio. I’m drooling over this plateful of goodness.

Hartwood Acres Engagement Session | Katie & Tom

I seriously adore these two. They are just awesome. Katie and I have been friends since college. In fact, more than friends, we were roomies for 3 years. Yep, we know each other pretty well. It really didn’t take too long to see that Tom makes Katie very, VERY happy. Since Katie is happy most of the time, I was easily able to recognize that this is well above baseline. They are great friends to me and Sam and I’m feeling so lucky that I get to be part of their wedding day! (It couldn’t possibly mean more to me than asking and trusting me to capture their memories for them. Thanks you two!)

I love this one. Tom, being Tom. Katie, being Katie.
